About Jacqui

IMG_0758Jacqui Grantford’s earliest commissions as an artist began in Wheeler’s Hill primary school where the other classmates would ask her to draw for them.

At secondary school she demonstrated a strong interest in both music and art. She began learning the piano at 15 and entered into the Conservatorium of Music at Melbourne University when she finished school.
It was at this time, however, that she began to learn the violin and developed a passion for it. Deferring from University, she practised for a year completing Grade 6 AMEB, and then auditioned to major in the violin at the Conservatorium.
She completed her Bachelor of Music in 1991 and taught music for a number of years.

When her first child was born, however, he would cry every time Jacqui played the violin, so she started to pursue a quieter vocation - art.

Since then Jacqui has worked extensively as an artist, participating in a number of group exhibitions. This year her portrait of Jacki Weaver received a Certificate of Excellence in the Portrait Society of America's international prize, as well as receiving a 5th placing in the Members Only international prize. Another of her portraits received a highly commended in this prize.

She is also a well-known children’s author/book illustrator and educator, with over 12 published books.

‘A True Person’, written by Gabian Marin and illustrated by Jacqueline was one of the 250 outstanding new international books for children and young adults that have been selected for The White Ravens 2008. The White Raven label is given to books that deserve worldwide attention because of their exceptional and often innovative artistic and literary style and design.

One of Jacqui's hobbies is radio announcing on 3MBS fm, 103.5 fm, a Classical radio station based in Melbourne. Here she provides interviews and reviews on what is happening in the arts in Melbourne for the program 'Arts Weekly'. You can stream 3MBS if you're not from Melbourne on 3MBS.org.au
