Review Highlights "I bought this at the recent CBC conference where it was launched. The story about Pemberthy Bear who 'was mean and gruff' is told in rhyme that floats along and leads the reader easily from one page to the next. The day I bought it I read it to two young women in their twenties who were delighted by the rhyming text and the illustrations. I have no doubt I'll get a similar response from two year old granddaughter. The story is a feel good type of story about joining in rather than remaining aloof. Like Lynley Dodd of Hairy Maclary Fame, Sally has used words with musicality. Words like 'clamber, frivolous, precariously, urged, surged, clasped.' Words that roll of the tongue and I loved the 'tinkling waterfall of sound.' The illustrations are a delight. Pemberthy is, without doubt, one of the cutest furry brown bears you'll ever meet and the end papers of Pemberthy dancing add to the joyful feel of this book. Aside from the cover illustration of Pemberthy alone on his shelf, the illustration I loved was of Pemberthy opening his mouth to sing. Another favourite was Pemberthy's blushing face. Pretty in pink and aqua, New Frontier has produced a beautiful book destined to become a favourite that will enchant young children. The rhyme leads itself to pleas of 'read it again,' and the illustrations demand to be 'pawed' over." -- Dale Harcombe, Author and Manuscript Assesssor, www.daleharcombe.com
